How does ORI FIT-MET™ work?
ORI FIT-MET™ takes daily measured physical activity data from wearable device sensors, such as a Garmin watch, daily weight from a scale, and fat mass from bioimpedance devices. Based on these serial daily measurements of physical activity, weight, and fat, and some initial demographic values, ORI FIT-MET™ can be used for tracking and predicting:
How can ORI FIT-MET™ help you?
ORI FIT-MET™ is the first metabolic health monitor of its kind to give an individualized quantitative description of your energy metabolism.
In fact, ORI FIT-MET™ can measure the fat vs. carbohydrate oxidation rate as well as indicators of insulin resistance and metabolic flexibility, providing you with feedback on your current metabolic health.
The planning function allows you to see future changes based on your current lifestyle. By using the planning function, you can play out potential ways to change your diet and exercise and see how it could affect your metabolic variables.
All this information can help you achieve reasonable goals by gradually implementing healthy changes to your lifestyle.
1. What is insulin resistance?
It’s an impaired response of the energy metabolism that causes exaggerated glucose levels with concomitantly heightened insulin levels following drinks or meals that contain carbohydrates. Those who suffer from insulin resistance burn sugar more than fat, which leads to increased hunger and thus overfeeding.
2. What is metabolic flexibility?
Metabolic flexibility is the ability to switch the fuel burning appropriately from fat to carbohydrate or vice versa depending on availability. With impaired metabolic flexibility, there is an inability to modify the fat vs. carbohydrate oxidation rate, which results in lipid accumulation and insulin resistance.
3. Why is my insulin resistance status important for my health?
Insulin resistance-related metabolic changes cause the accumulation of visceral fat, and the development of fatty liver and fat deposits in muscles and other organs. All these are associated with increased levels of free radical production and inflammation inside the arterial walls, which leads to the premature hardening of arteries and increases the chance for developing cardiovascular disease.
4. What can I do (or can be done) about insulin resistance?
Experts advise lifestyle modification as the mainstay of therapy. On the energy intake side, dietary recommendations include avoiding concentrated sugar and calorie restriction. On the calorie expenditure side, increased physical activity is recommended to improve the fat versus carbohydrate burning ratio and metabolic flexibility.
